About English Class

I liked this class very much. it was not just a regular english class so to speak. we weren't sitting in a classroom gettingbored reading books and doing assignments, we were in a computer lab working on assignments i've never even heard of. which is not a bad thing. the thing i liked most about the class is that i discovered new projects and programs to work with. i mean dreamweaver is a fun and up to date program. the thing i liked least about the class was the weekend homework. it's not really a problem, and i understand that if we could only do stuff in class we would never really finish. but most people like me have a job or even a kid as i do. it's a little harder to have a deadline when your son wont go to sleep and he wont leave the computer alone you know. what will i take away from this class? i never really thought too hard about that. if there was anything that i would be takin away from this class, it would be the experience and the new essays that might come in handy later on in life. i actually really did enjoy the class as well as the teacher(rebecca medley) i dont have many other complaints. if i was asked if i would recommend this class i think i would.

Synthesis

i don't believe that writing academically is hard it's just more challenging to me than writing creatively. it seems like there is more that has to be done than when you're just freewriting or writing a poem or short story. when writing academic papers, you mostly have to research and produce sources and write in a certain format. while when writing creatively, there are almost no boundaries. i do actually happen to be one of those students who can't seem to write exactly what i'm trying to say while also trying to sound at the college level. i always have to write and rewrite and edit etc. i know exactly what and how i want my paper to be but when i start i can't get it right. i don't know if it's habit forming or if i really just can't write a great paper. when it comes to my multimodal essay, my faults with writing did indeed catch up to me. after so long of trying to find sources and such, i became frustrated and wanted to just write whatever i felt like. thank god i pushed myself to finish right. the most difficult aspect of using sources for me, was when i found an article or paper that i could use but when it came to the sources sometimes i had to find where they came from. like one source was papert and i had to go try to find the exact article this other paper was produced off of. all in all writing is something i love to do but it is a difference and sometimes i think my writing shows my frustrations.

Claim

i have come up with a couple of claims and im still kind of confused on what it should be but here is my best shot.

Claim: Teachers should use internet in the classroom to supplement book learning because it can enhance a child's intelligence as well as help them learn more efficiently.

Multimodal Reflection Blog

While writing my Multimodal Essay i had to think about who this essay would appeal to most. after doing all my research and finalizing the first couple of paragraphs, i decided that my audienced would be teachers and parents of elementary students. I think my purpose for writing about improving skills by using the internet, was to help these teachers realize that the internet is not all bad and it can help these kids start learning at an early age. Also to help them see that they could improve these childrens future by introducing them at a young age.

In my Mutimodal Essay, I was most proud of the information I found and the way that i placed them. As i wrote the information, it seemed to come together nicely and fall in place. If i could have improved anything it would be my sources page. I couldn't really find where the information came from even though they did happen to place their names by their statements. It was kind of hard to place the phrasing to the voice. I think that I did in fact put alot of time into my essay seeing that i thought it was due last monday(ha ha rebecca) but that extra week let me gather my findings better and make sure that i was in fact fine with how it ended up.

As for my comments, i think that i indeed made it seem harder than what it really was. When we first started this essay, i thought to myself oh no here we go. but as time went on and i became familiar with the program in itself, i had fun. i thought my title was pretty interesting and actually very informative. while doing my research i also found alot of information that i didn't even know about. It was great. I was actually a little upset because when i tried to research my title, i had a hard time coming up with anything for the first few tries, it was quite frustrating. I don't know if I couldn't figure out good keywords or if i was putting in the wrong information. All in all I think the project was interesting and informative. I don't know if I would voluntarily do another one but it was good while it lasted:)
