When I was about 13 or 14, I was introduced to the web past the point of doing homewrork or resarch papers. I learned early what an actual chat site was becuase of my older cousins always inside a chatroom. At that point I didnt really know what was going on, but now that I'm older I dont get what is so special about talking to individuals online. I dont do anything on the internet (besides homework), but check my e-mails, check my info on PC Star, or go on myspace or facebook. But even then I just check to see if I have messages and then I get right back off. The computer world is not of much importance to me. I dont think that cyberculture has affected me per say, but I do think it has a strange hold on younger people. For instance, my little sister is on the computer 24/7! Whether she's talking to her friends or changing her page on myspace every other day or whatever. When she comes home from school she's on it until she goes home. I would have to say that that is a negative influence. There shouldn't be anything that a little girl can do from sun up to sundown. I can't say that the internet has let me down or anything because I don't have any expectations. One thing that does really bother me about the internet thoug, is the fact that there is no way to really trace who your kids are talking to. I mean there have been way too many stories about kids getting attacked or abducted because of online "friends". That really scares me. I mean what if it happened to someone you knew or a family member? The internet is not as safe a place as some people think.I wish there was a way to change that.

you are right cyberculture today is aimed more towards the younger kids. They act like being online or on my space,or facebook is all that matters. What they don't realize is that there are people out there waiting to harm them. I personaly don't have either my space or facebook accounts. The way I see it if I can't talk to you on the phone or in person I don't need to talk to you that bad.
I agree with you. I don't think that the internet today with myspace and facebook is having any kind of posative influence on kids. Like anything else though, what does? At least the internet is not in person so its not as dangerous. The ways some of the kids are behaving on it isnt right but I think there could be worse things they could be doing with thier time. On the otherhand, there also is many better things.(Doing Homework)
